It all began in 2012, when Mark DeVaney met Miguel Rojas while on a short-term mission trip to Costa Rica. In the years that followed, the two pastors forged a strong friendship and shared vision for connecting their churches.  In 2014, Cornerstone Church – where Mark serves as Senior Pastor – began to officially support Miguel’s church, Iglesia De La Ciudad, as one of their mission partnerships. 

God had even bigger plans. In 2015, Miguel and Mark started exploring what it would look like to form a nonprofit that could host mission teams and reach all of the people of Costa Rica. After years of prayerful consideration, they launched For the City in 2019 and began hosting mission trips the same year. 

Miguel and Mark believe that people’s lives are changed in the mission field – both those who are serving and those who are helped. God works through ordinary people to do extraordinary things, and taking a trip to “the least of these” in Jesus’ name will have an eternal impact.
